VAYU MUDRA

The above is an image of Vayu Mudra. However, the book I refer to, keeps the thumb straight in the same place as shown in the image, instead of bent.

All the rules of doing a Mudra as explained in the previous post of Sahaj Shankh Mudra have to be followed while doing Vayu Mudra also.I am reapeating them here, for the sake of those who do not know or have forgotten :

1.One should not eat for 30 minutes before and after doing any mudra.
2.All mudras should be used only till a problem persists and not beyond such time.
3.A mudra can be practised for a maximum of 45 minutes a day for most benefit. One may divide this into 15 minutes at a time totalling 45 minutes. However, I have noticed benefits even when these are practised for 5-10 minutes a day.

(Do not continue to practise any mudra if you feel that it is harming you.)ALSO ALL MUDRAS SHOULD BE PRACTISED FOR A MAXIMUM OF 15 DAYS TO A MONTH.THREAFTER, IF NEED BE TO PRACTISE THEM FURTHER, THEN ONE SHOULD DISCONTINUE THEM FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND RESTART AFTER THAT FOR ANOTHER 15 DAYS TO A MONTH. REPEAT TILL ONE DOES NOT NEED TO PRACTISE THE MUDRA ANY MORE.

Lie down for 5-10 minutes after practising all the Mudras for maximum benefit.

To obtain the best benefit of mudra practise them first thing in the morning after waking up.Mudras are normally to be practised in padmasan or vajrasan, however, if you do not them, you would still benefit, but yes, you should at least sit in cross legged position.Mudras can be done even if you are taking any other medication.

HOW TO DO THE VAYU MUDRA :

Let the tip of the index finger touch the base of your thumb, and press down the index finger lightly with your thumb, keeping the rest of your fingers straight to do the Vayu Mudra.Best benefit of Vayu Mudra is obtained by doing it in Vajrasan.

It is possible that you start, burping or farting while doing this Mudra or thereafter, do not worry, it only means that your body is releasing the excess vayu(vatta) from your system.

Benefits of Vayu Mudra :

1.Vayu(also known as vatta)produced in the system, tends to go and stay in different parts of your body, creating vatta ailments(like arthritis, Ankylosing spondilitis, sciatica, knee pain, cervical spondylosis, etc) in those areas. For these kind of vatta ailments, this mudra is very beneficial as it reduces the amount of excess vayu in your system.
2.For those who experience a lot of gas, after having food, it is good to do this mudra in vajrasan for immediate relief.
3.The book I read from which I learnt this mudra also classifies Parkinsons, polio, paralysis as vatta ailments and says this mudra should help in them too.
4.It helps in relieving stiffness in your neck.

CAUTION :
Do not use this Mudra for more than 30 minutes at any point in time.If badly required, it may be done 2-3 times a day for 15 minutes at each time. The moment your pain stops or you have obtained substantial relief, immediately stop using this Mudra.
This Mudra is also like the opposite of Gyan Mudra, which is very beneficial for your brain, so overuse of this Mudra can be harmful for you.
Do not repeatedly use this Mudra as you would use other Mudras unless absolutely neccessary, and even then use it for lesser number of days.Use this Mudra sparingly.

BACK PROBLEM NO PROBLEM

Hi,

I know that many of us suffer from back problems. In this post I would like to discuss a mudra which is very effective in providing relief for back problems, especially for those suffering from ankylosing spondilitis. However, it is also effective for other back problems because it helps to keep the back straight and flexible, in short it strenghthens the back.

This mudra is called the 'sahaj shankh mudra'.Certain rules are to be followed whenever one does any mudra. They are:

How to do the SAHAJ SHANKH MUDRA :
Cross the fingers of both the hands, and press both palms together.Press both the thumbs on the index finger of both the hands as shown in the picture above.(Ensure that the thumbs press onto the index fingers, else you will lose out on the benefit of the Mudra.)Keep your palms near your belly button(nabhi kendra). This is how to do the sahaj shankh mudra. It gives best results in vajrasan if you can do it.

Benefits of the sahaj shankh mudra :

1.It improves your digestion.
2.It improves your voice quality and people with speech problems also benefit(more so with the shankh mudra).
3.The back remains straight(for those whose back remains bent and cannot straighten, this is very beneficial.)
4.It improves the flexibility of your back.

Hope this post was helpful to you.Would be glad to receive your feedback if it has helped your back problem.
